Cinderella

 

Rio participated in the local art council's theatre production, "Cinderella". She had never done it before, so we had no idea how time consuming it would be to participate in the play. Not only was she busy rehearsing, but I also had to volunteer at least six hours, and I, for some silly reason, volunteered to help with the costumes. I think I sewed about six ball gowns. That was when I wasn't feeling very well, so I was so glad when I was done with those dresses. Then, once the show started, I needed to do Rio's hair and make-up for each performance. (We had a "how to" meeting for the parents a week before the show's opening.) It was extra work I wasn't looking forward to do, but I got better towards the end of the run. Now I know how to attach fake eyelashes! :)

Anyway, the first picture is of Rio in her ball gown for the ball room scene.  

リオは、この地域の団体企画のミュージカル”シンデレラ”に参加しました。初参加だったので、こんなに練習などに時間がかかるものなんだ、とびっくり。それと、親がボランテイアを最低６時間しなくてはいけなくて。私は、気楽に考えてコスチュームのお手伝いします、なんて希望したら、ドレスを6着ほど縫うはめになってしまいました。縫うと言っても市販のドレスに飾りや袖を付け足したり、という程度なのですが、それでも終わったときにはほっとしました。ちょうど病気していた時だったので疲れ気味だったからかも。

でも、親の仕事はまだまだあり。舞台用のヘアとメイクをそれぞれの家庭でやってください、って。（汗）公演は合計6回ほどあったので、最後には付けまつ毛をつけるのもすっかり上手になりました。

James and Marcus also went to see it. I didn't "go", but I (again) had to volunteer to be an usher one night, and I watched it from the back of the auditorium.
ジェームズとマーカスも観に行きました。私はこれまたボランティアで受付の仕事を一晩しなくてはいけなかったので、そのときに会場の後ろの席で見ました。

Here is the review of the show. I thought they did a good job, and most importantly, they looked like they had fun. You don't expect a Broadway quality show from a youth production, but some of the main actors were quite good.
ミュージカルの出来はまずまず。シンデレラ役がいまひとつだったのを除くと、なかなか皆頑張っていたと思います。5−18才の子供たちが演じている訳だから、ブロードウエイ並は無理ですけど、皆楽しそうに頑張っている様子が好感あり、でした。リオは主役じゃないのに一際光っていましたよ。（親ばか）
