Mayor's Choice of Education Award

Every month, The city we live chose one school, then ask them to choose two students and one teacher for their special achievements. For the month of April, Rio's middle school was featured and she was chosen to be one of the recipients.

毎月、私たちの住んでいる市は市内の学校の中から1学校を選び、その学校の優れた生徒を男女1名ずつ表彰します。4月はリオの通っている中学校が取り上げられ、女生徒代表にリオが選ばれました。

Rio Turnbull - Oquirrh Hills Middle School is pleased to nominate Rio Turnbull for Riverton City Choice Award - for Excellence in Education. Rio has only been at our school for two years but has stood out as an exemplary student.  Her teacher Ms. Petrovich writes, “One trait that I really love about Rio is her gratitude.  After EVERY class she makes it a point to approach me and thank me for that day's class.  She does it with the most beautiful smile and sweet spirit.” Her teacher Ms. Linsley said, “Rio is a fantastic student that always does her best!  She is very pleasant to have in class, and is always positive.  Rio is always willing to lend a hand to a student who is struggling with a concept. I am grateful to have to opportunity to have Rio as a student in my class.”          

Rio was born in Irvine California and has moved back and forth between there and Utah throughout her life.  Rio was home schooled until the 4^th grade when she entered the public school education system. Rio is a natural student that has excelled in her studies. She was able to skip the 7^th grade and entered OHMS from sixth grade directly into eighth grade. Rio is part of the ALPS program or the Accelerated Learning Program. The main difference between the ALPS program and an honors program is the accelerated pace that ALPS offers. Students in the program complete significant portions of the tenth-grade curriculum by the time they finish ninth-grade.           

When Rio grows up she wants to be a psychologist. She says the brain and its abilities fascinate her and she would love to learn more about its function. Rio loves to sing, write, act and listen to music. She hopes that one day she will produce and album or write a Novel. Rio attributes her maturity to the fact that he has a special needs older brother that she helps take care of at home. Rio makes our school a better place to be. We are pleased to nominate her for this award and can’t think of a more deserving student. Congratulations Rio for being our choice for Riverton’s Excellence in Education award.

”ＯＨＭＳ（リオの中学校）はリオを市の賞に心から推薦します。彼女は2年間しか在校していませんが、 模範的な推賞すべき生徒です。彼女を担当するペトロヴィッチ先生は、「リオは感謝の心という特質を持っています。毎日授業後に必ず私の所にやって来て"今日の授業どうもありがとうございました"と輝く笑顔で言ってくれます。」と彼女について述べています。また、地理を担当するリンジー先生は、こう語っています。「リオはいつも全力を尽くす素晴らしい生徒です。授業についていけないクラスメートには常に手を貸し、助けてくれます。彼女を私のクラスに持つ事が出来て感謝しています。」

リオはカリフォルニア州アーバイン市生まれで、ユタとカリフォルニアを交互にすごして育ちました。4年生までホームスクールで学び、その後公立学校に変更。優秀生徒である彼女は7年生を飛び級し、6年生から即8年生に進みました。また、彼女はＡＬＰＳというプログラムに受け入れられています。ＡＬＰＳの特色は加速されたシステムで、彼女は現在9年生ですが、10年生レベルの授業内容を学んでいます。

リオの将来の夢は心理学者、または 臨床心理医。脳とその役割、可能性に興味があるそうです。彼女は、音楽、執筆、演劇が趣味で、将来レコード出版か、小説出版を希望しています。また、彼女は自閉症の兄を持つ事が彼女の成長に起因していると考えています。

リオの存在は我校をより良いものとしてくれています。この賞に値する生徒は彼女のほかには考えられないでしょう。
