I was a little nervous about his new year for many reasons, but when I picked him up on the first day, he told me that he had an awesome day and he thought that his new teacher was great.
Since I work at his school, I know all the teachers, and I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. (It's such an advantage, I think.)
I like his new teacher (I like most of the teacher at our school; they work so hard!), and she and I have been talking about this upcoming year for a while. She was nice enough to tell me that she was looking forward to having Marcus (so did his next year's teacher. She was also my daughter's teacher when she was in 5th grade).
マーカスの新学年が始まりました。もう4年生です。
新しい学年、どうかなぁと少し心配していたのですが、第1日目に迎えに行った時、とても嬉しそうに楽しかった！と言っていたのでひと安心しました。
私はこの学校で働いているので、先生たちは皆知っているし、各先生の教え方などもわかっていて、マーカスの担当になる先生とはずいぶん前からマーカスの事を始め、いろいろと話をしていたので、その意味では学校で働いているのはプラスだなぁと思います。この先生も、5年生になったら担当になる先生も「マーカスが私の生徒になるのを楽しみにしているわ。」と言ってくれたりします。
At the orientation on the first day, his teacher gave us a brief explanation about what to expect and what her students need to do, and that made me so excited about this year.
I have a feeling that it would be a great one for Marcus. I truly hope that I'm right.
Some of the things I noticed about him ever since he began 4th grade is that he started reading books a lot, and he is more focused on his school works. He asks me to review his math problems at home even if it's not necessary, and he mentions often that he really wants to do well at his school work. That kind of self motivation and determination was almost non-existent before (ha ha ha...), so I'm thrilled to see his growth and change in only two weeks!
初日のオリエンテーションでは、先生が簡単に宿題や課題の説明をしてくれて、それを聞いているうちになんだかこの学年度が楽しみになってきました。きっと良い1年になるような気がします。
そして4年生になってマーカスは急に本をよく読むようになったり、勉強にも熱が入るようになりました。帰宅後、算数の復習をしたいから問題を出して欲しいと私に頼むようになったり、勉強頑張りたいと言いだしたり。そういった自発性や決意の強さは以前全く見られなかったので（笑）、そういった成長が既に現れてきたのを驚きながら嬉しく思っています。
The Elementary school Marcus goes to (and I work for) is a really good school. The principal is always looking for an improvement, and one new thing they started this year is "The Leader in Me".
They teach kids 7 habits to improve themselves. They put out many inspirational quotes on the wall throughout the school, and I really like it!
Here are the 7 habits, and of course everyone knows they are based on this book.

働いている私が言うのもなんですが、この学校はなかなか良い学校なのですよ。校長先生は新しいアイデアを取り入れながら学校の向上を目指す熱心な先生で、今年から"The Leader in Me"というプログラムを始めることになりました。これは、「7つの習慣」を基にした、学校向けのプログラムです。7つの習慣というのは、
1. 主体性を発揮する（自己責任）
2. 目的を持つ（自ら立つ）
3. 重要事項を優先する（自己管理）
4. Win-Winを考える（人間関係）
5. 理解してから理解される（感情移入）
6. 相乗効果を発揮する（創造的な協力）
7. 刃を研ぐ（常時向上システム）
なのですが、これを小さい頃から意識していれば、将来的にすごく役に立つような気がします。楽しみだなぁ～
Another new thing coming to this year is the First Lego League! I'm the organizer/team coach, and we're going to have two teams at our school. It's going to be so fun, but I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous because I am NOT an engineer. I have no clue what to do and how to program a robot. I always come up with the idea and act before thinking. It's a bad trait... LOL
もうひとつ今年から始まるのが、レゴリーグ！日本ではこちらが運営しているみたいですね。レゴマインドストームを使ってロボットを組み立て、プログラミングをする国際ロボット競技会です。
もちろん（？）発起人は私（笑）。2チームが編成される予定です。これも、楽しいけれど、大変な役割となりそうで正直なところちょっと不安だったりしますが（だって、私は科学技術とかちんぷんかんぷんなのです。汗）、頑張ろうと思います。
Anyway, it's going to be a fun packed year! I'm so excited!
とにかく、この1年も有意義な年になりそうです。
